Tee-n times at Ramsdale Park Golf Centre
(July 16, 2012) Ramsdale Park Golf Centre is continuing its campaign to encourage Nottingham’s youngsters to give golf a go, offering a raft of summer activities to participate in.
Operating an active junior golf programme, Ramsdale Park – part of BGL Golf, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator – works closely with the Nottinghamshire Schools Partnership to introduce the sport into schools as well as staging frequent events throughout the school holidays.
Thanks to a £2,000 grant from Sportivate – a £32 million Lottery programme that gives 14-25 year-olds access to a range of sports including golf, tennis and judo – the public pay-and-play centre hosted a six-week introductory course to offer golf to youngsters who might not otherwise have had the opportunity.
Youngsters from Arnold Hill Academy, Bulwell Academy, Djanogly City Academy, Hadden Park High School and Nottingham Academy took part and last week a number of the children returned to the centre for a day to practice the skills they’d learnt and take part in friendly competitions.
Taking part in a putting contest the teenagers also took to the Par-3 Lee Course, regarded as one of the finest short courses in the country, for a six-hole tournament. With 18-holes ranging from 100 to 207-yards, the layout provides new golfers a fantastic opportunity to learn and practice before tackling the main, Seely Course.
Nick Birch, Ramsdale Park Golf Centre General Manager, said: “Having worked with the Nottinghamshire Schools Partnership to give these youngsters the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of the game, it is pleasing to see so many returning with an eagerness to pursue their interest in golf.”
Working tirelessly to promote junior golf, a daily programme of junior golf events will be staged throughout the summer holidays at Ramsdale Park, overseen by PGA Professional, Tom Wilson, and include free taster sessions, day camps and competitions, catering for golfers of all ages and abilities.
