Top 100-ranked King’s and Queen’s courses to annually host a new three-day competition from next May

Gleneagles, the Scottish hotel and global luxury destination, has today announced the launch of ‘Gleneagles Foursomes’ to be staged at the award-winning 850-acre Perthshire estate from next May.

Consistently ranked the UK’s #1 golf resort, Gleneagles will add this pairs, alternate shot, knockout format competition to its roster of open events from 2025 to be played across its Top 100-ranked King’s and Queen’s golf courses.

Andrew Jowett, Director of Golf at Gleneagles, commented: “Foursomes is one of the classic competitive golf challenges loved by club golfers the world-over and we are confident this new addition to Gleneagles’ sporting calendar will be an in-demand event for those relishing the challenge of our two James Braid-designed heathland courses.”

Foursomes pairs will be treading a rich path of golfing history when they compete at ‘The Glorious Playground’ next May.

Gleneagles pioneered the growth of competitive golf in the UK, hosting its first event on The King’s Course in 1920 – the Glasgow Herald Tournament – that offered a winner’s purse of £650 (£20,000 in today’s money) which, at that time, was the largest first prize in British tournament golf.

It is also the only venue in Europe to have staged The Ryder Cup (2014) and The Solheim Cup (2019) further cementing its position in competitive golf.

Gleneagles Foursomes is expected to attract 64 pairings, with entry open to both male and female amateurs (12.4 World Handicap System handicap or below) and professionals (men +1, women scratch).

To keep the competitive juices flowing across the event, 32 pairs that are defeated in the first morning’s play on The King’s Course, will be invited to compete for the ‘Silver Salver’ on The Queen’s Course in the afternoon.

Following a practice round prior to the competition commencing, the full format of the new event, priced at £300 per pair and booked through Golf Genius (The Gleneagles Foursomes Tournament – Gleneagles), will be as follows:

The King’s Course

Round 1, 2nd May (am): 64 pairs; Round 2, 2nd May (pm): 32 pairs; Round 3, 3rd May (am): 16 pairs; Quarter Final, 3rd May (pm): 8 pairs; Semi Final, 4th May (am): 4 pairs; Final, 4th May (pm): 2 pairs.
