“Hello Mauritius, hello Heritage Golf Club!” Marcel Siem is “loving life” as he lands sixth DP World Tour Title, this time in Italy
“Hello Mauritius! Hello Heritage Golf Club! Love you there! See you soon!” Those were the jubilant words the colourfully dressed Marcel Siem shouted into a live TV camera as he celebrated his sixth DP World Tour victory at the Italian Open on Sunday (July 30).
Completing a remarkable comeback in only his fourth tournament since hip surgery, the Heritage Golf Club ambassador, who lives with his family in Mauritius, holed a 22-foot birdie putt on the last to force a play-off which he would go on to win.
“I love life, I love golf, it can’t get any better at the moment,” said an elated Siem, in trademark tropical attire. “I love this sport and these moments. I work really hard for them. When you get rewarded like this, it’s very special.”
Siem does indeed work hard and is seen most days in the gym at the beachfront Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort and on the practice ground at the adjoining Heritage Golf Club. He’s also been honing his shot-making skills on La Réserve Golf Links, the first links style course in the Indian Ocean, ahead of this month’s Open at Royal Troon.
Jonathan Menteath, General Manager of Heritage Golf Club, added: “Marcel is a legend at the club. He works incredibly hard, but he is also generous with his time and loves chatting with members and guests at the resort.
“He loves island life, relaxing with his family at home and on the beach, and it’s no surprise that at age 43 he is still playing world class golf. Congratulations Marcel – we’re looking forward to celebrating with you back at the club very soon!”
Heritage Golf Club, Mauritius, is a World Top 25 golf resort set within the 2,500-hectare Bel Ombre estate, nestled alongside a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The club’s new golf course, La Réserve Golf Links, opened to worldwide acclaim in December 2023, hosting the Mauritius Open in the same month.
The club is also renowned for the lush, elegant Le Château Golf Course, consistently voted the Indian Ocean’s Best Golf Course, making Heritage Golf Club the only 45-hole golf destination in the Indian Ocean.
Siem, who won the Indian Open last year and will hope to continue his winning streak in Germany this week at the BMW International Open, has now set his sights on two major ambitions: to play in The Ryder Cup and the Masters.
“My big goal is to get into The Ryder Cup team,” he said after his victory in Italy. “I’ve never played The Ryder Cup or the Masters. These are the two big goals for me and whatever happens on the way there, I’ll take it and keep working even harder. I’m just loving it. I love life at the moment. It’s great.”
