New era for golf at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness, Spain’s No.1 golf resort, today announced three significant appointments to its golf management and commercial teams.

With substantial expertise in managing high-end golf venues, David Ashington (pictured below) arrives at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness as Director of Golf. He will spearhead a new team at the resort that includes Daniel Pérez, Golf Key Account Director, and Flavio Papa, Golf Operation Manager.

During a career spanning nearly two decades, David has built a wealth of knowledge and experience, most recently at Monte Rei Golf and Country Club, in Portugal, that sees him lead the implementation of a new era in golf at PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness.

“We have a great product here, including the critically-acclaimed Stadium Course, which recently hosted a DP World Tour event, practice facilities that are the envy of other resorts in Continental Europe, as well as a five-star hotel, Hotel Camiral, and Wellness Centre,” said David Ashington.

“With the recent developments and investment at PGA Catalunya, we are looking to deliver an enhanced customer service that falls in line with these and allows us to substantially step change our offering.

“There will be some initial changes that members, residents and guests will notice straight away and we will be implementing longer-term plans from 2023 onwards.”

Joining David are Daniel Pérez, who grew his commercial golf experience at Real Club de Golf El Prat, where he built key relationships within the wider travel and hospitality industries to help drive revenue growth, and Flavio Papa, who brings valuable operations expertise gathered at Empordà Golf Club and La Cala Resort.

David added: “Flavio and Daniel have incredibly important roles to play in the next phase of growth at PGA Catalunya.

“Their enthusiasm and passion, along with their knowledge and expertise will enable us to heighten our golf operation, both on and around the golf courses, and bolster our commercial offerings in key markets, as well as grow our reach in new sectors.”

The appointments follow a hugely successful 18-month period that has seen the European Tour Destination, located 20 minutes outside Girona in north-eastern Spain, open an award-winning Wellness Centre and complete a sustainability-focused €1million upgrade to its Stadium Course, which recently hosted the Catalunya Championship, earning significant praise from players on the DP World Tour in the process.

Further improvements have also been made to the resort’s Golf Hub, where course conditions have been meticulously replicated for the best possible warm-up experience.
