A sell-out field of amateur golfers, sporting celebrities and PGA Professionals from across Europe and beyond have competed in the third playing of the International Pro Am at Gleneagles, the iconic Scottish hotel and sporting estate.
On the eve of hosting the inaugural European Golf Team Championships, Gleneagles welcomed 23 teams to ‘The Glorious Playground’ to compete for a pro prize fund of £16,000 and an amateur pot of £2,000.
VIP guests included former Open Champion and Gleneagles Golf Ambassador, Paul Lawrie, Gordon Strachan and David Moyes from the world of football, former Scotland rugby captain, Rory Lawson, and Scottish rugby player turned actor, Craig McGinlay.
Entries included teams from Scotland, England, the USA, United Arab Emirates, Russia and The Caribbean, competing across all three 18-hole championship courses at Gleneagles, the James Braid-designed and Top 100 ranked King’s and Queen’s, and The PGA Centenary Course, venue for next year’s Solheim Cup.
Retaining his individual title from 2017 was Gleneagles PGA Professional, Tom Higson, who claimed top spot and the £4,000 winner’s cheque with a seven-under par total, six clear of his nearest rival.
The team honours were closely fought, with a three-way tie on 40-under par over the three days. However, it was double delight for Tom Higson who guided his team of William Weaver, Trevor William and Mark Williams to victory on countback.
Gary Silcock, Director of Golf at Gleneagles, commented: “The reputation of the International Pro Am grows every year, and it is rapidly becoming a go-to experience for pros and amateurs from across Europe and beyond. This event is very special in that it blends everything Gleneagles is world-famous for, exceptional golf, luxury dining and field sports.”
In addition to golf, guests learned the art of fly fishing, watched displays of falconry and gundog training, tasted some of Scotland’s finest whiskies, and indulged in a ‘Taste of Scotland’ gala dinner to celebrate the week.
On conclusion of the event, dates for The 2019 International Pro Am, July 23-26, were also announced. Golfers seeking booking information should contact Gleneagles Resort Sales on (UK) 0800 704 705 or 01764 662231.
