Praise for PGA Catalunya at European Amateur Team Championship

Europe’s elite amateurs heaped praise on PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness as the European Amateur Team Championship ended with victory for Denmark.

The European Tour Destination’s famous Stadium Course provided the perfect stage for the 78 players from 13 countries competing in the 38th staging of the event, having undergone significant remodelling and manicuring work over the winter.

Eugenio Lopez-Characca, representing the Spanish team which reached the semi-finals, said: “The course was amazing. There was a lot of rain early in the week but the greenkeepers did a great job at getting it in excellent condition, and the last couple of days the greens were perfect, very fast and firm.

“PGA Catalunya is not all about golf – it’s a beautiful resort you can come to with your family. There are two beautiful courses to play but also a lot of other activities, other sports, ways to relax and many good options for food. It was my first time here but I will definitely be coming back.”

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness’ famous Stadium Course has had major investment since the end of 2020, with the par-4 10th hole re-modelled to incorporate a dogleg, cart paths added and replaced and the implementation of an intensive manicuring system.

And off the course, the Girona resort has further enhanced its offering this year with the opening of a state-of-the-art €5million Wellness Centre to complement the other impressive facilities which have earned it the title of Spain’s No.1 golf resort*.

David Plana, CEO of PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness, said: “From the condition of the Stadium Course and practice facilities, which won plaudits throughout the week, to the five-star facilities and hospitality, our team showed why we are so well respected in hosting elite golf tournaments.”

Dirk Delfortrie, Director of Golf, added: “It was extremely satisfying to see the Stadium Course looking immaculate and providing a challenging yet enjoyable test for the event.

“We are trying to do things a bit differently here, focusing not just on playing your best but enjoying every moment of your round to promote physical and emotional wellness. It was very rewarding to hear the players recognise this last week and give us such positive feedback.”

Competitors in the European Amateur Team Championship highly praised the premium condition of PGA Catalunya’s golf courses.

PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness is familiar with holding elite level tournaments, having hosted the Open de España in 2009 and 2014, the European Tour Qualifying School Final Stage from 2008 to 2016, and the European Tour Destinations Senior Classic in 2019.

The Stadium Course and its shorter, friendlier sister course, the Tour are both spectacular golfing experiences with views of the Montserrat mountains. They are complemented by the Golf Hub, one of the largest, finest practice facilities in Europe complete with Toptracer ball-tracking technology for best-in-class coaching and social gaming experiences.

Aside from world-class golf, the resort strives to provide a haven in which to spend time away from the stresses of everyday life, enjoying time outdoors and enjoying nature with family and friends.
