• Editor’s opinion: “the finest hotel in the entire ranking”

• New Golf Digest ranking positions Castiglion del Bosco in Top 10 Best Golf Courses in Italy

Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco, Tuscany, has been highlighted as the leading hotel in Golf World’s new Top 100 Resorts in Continental Europe, according to the ranking’s editor.

The exclusive luxury resort, which features a private Tom Weiskopf golf course accessible to resident hotel guests and club members only, is described by editor Chris Bertram as having, “the finest hotel in the entire ranking,” scoring a maximum 20/20 for accommodation.

One of only two single-course resorts in the top 20, the Golf World Top 100 Courses editor said, “I find it hard to believe anyone could go to Castiglion del Bosco and not be completely beguiled by it.

“Of course it is luxurious, of course it feels exclusive, of course it has the benefits and comfort of being a relatively modern hotel, and of course the staff are attentive. It’s more than that though, and it’s because this resort was 900 years in the making.”

The five-star resort at Castiglion del Bosco – previously named No.1 Hotel in the World in Travel + Leisure’s 100 Best Hotels in the World 2022 – features 42 luxury suites centred on an historic hilltop village and medieval castle ruin overlooking the UNESCO listed Val d’Orcia landscape.

The 2,000-hectare estate also offers luxury accommodation in 11 exquisitely restored 17th and 18th century farmhouses, as well as an award-winning winery producing prestigious Brunello di Montalcino wines. A Michelin star restaurant, spa and cookery school with an organic kitchen garden are also among the amenities.

The golf course at The Club at Castiglion del BoscoItaly’s only private club, has recently benefitted from a multi-million Euro upgrade to enhance year-round playing conditions and sustainability with a closed capture drainage system to collect all rainwater runoff.

Golf World isn’t the only publication to select the resort and club among the best. In September 2024, Golf Digest magazine rated The Club at Castiglion del Bosco in its top 10 Best Golf Courses in Italy.

David Waters, General Manager of The Club at Castiglion del Bosco, said: “Following The Ryder Cup, there has been increased international interest in golf in Italy and we are delighted to be recognised among the top resorts in Golf World’s ranking – and also among Golf Digest’s Top 10 Best Golf Courses in Italy.

“Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is an extraordinary hotel and the combination of luxury accommodation with privileged access to Italy’s only private golf club is a compelling proposition for discerning golf travellers.”
