Prestigious Private Club
Royal Birkdale is one of the world’s most prestigious private golf clubs and a host venue of both The Open and Ryder Cup.
In 2020, the club embarked on a complete interior refurbishment of its iconic Art Deco clubhouse.
The club selected leading interior designer Sacha Dunnett to create a bold, stylish look for its historic clubhouse.
Inspired by the view from the clubhouse bar, across the sand dunes, and using old golf course photography, Dunnett designed a unique links carpet, reflecting the golf course layout weaving through the sand dunes. She also worked with an architect to create a new bar, reflecting the clubhouse’s Art Deco curves, and bespoke British furniture, upholstered by the luxury leather manufacturer that supplies Aston Martin cars and the Houses of Parliament.
To tell the story of the clubhouse transformation, Landmark produced a short film for Sacha Dunnett: Bringing the Outside In. More than a promotional video, the short film goes deeper into the inspiration for the design – and what it means to the members of Royal Birkdale.Return to work
