Gleneagles retains important #1 golf resort ranking

Gleneagles, the iconic Scottish hotel and global luxury destination, was today announced as the UK & Ireland’s #1 Golf Resort 2023, an important accolade it has now held for eight consecutive years.

The 850-acre Perthshire estate – the only venue in Europe to have staged both the Ryder Cup (2014) and the Solheim Cup (2019) – was again a clear #1 in Golf World’s Top 100 rankings, judged by an independent panel of industry experts and golf course aficionados.

Receiving a near perfect score, The Glorious Playground received full marks in the sub-categories of ‘courses’, ‘accommodation’ and ‘amenities’, underlining the appeal of the estate’s three championship golf courses, world-renowned luxury hotel and over 50 outdoor pursuits available for guests to experience.

“I just can’t imagine anyone not thinking Gleneagles was, as they say these days, ‘their happy place’. Gleneagles is the finest resort in the UK, rain or shine,” said Chris Bertram, Top 100 Courses & Resorts Editor, Golf World/Today’s Golfer.

Conor O’Leary, Managing Director of Gleneagles, added: “On behalf of every member of the Gleneagles team, who work so tirelessly to deliver industry-leading customer service and hospitality experiences, we are very proud to once again be recognised at the pinnacle of these important rankings.

“Golf has sat at the very heart of our estate for over 100 years, and to be benchmarked so highly against other superb experiences across the UK and Ireland, is hugely satisfying.”

All three of Gleneagles’ 18-hole golf courses – The King’s, The Queen’s and the Jack Nicklaus-designed PGA Centenary – also feature strongly in a just-released Top 100 Scottish courses ranking from the same publisher. The King’s, regarded as one of James Braid’s classics, is the highest ranked inland golf course in Scotland, at #14.

The King’s has benefitted from significant renovation projects in recent years that have seen it restored to the original ‘inland links’ design vision of the celebrated architect. The golf course also successfully hosted last year’s Senior Open Presented by Rolex, won by Darren Clarke.

Beyond the fairways, Gleneagles’ guests can unwind and relax at the hotel, where a wealth of food and drink options await, including The Strathearn, the theatrical Franco-Scottish dining experience, The Birnam, a vibrant and relaxed Italian-American grill , or toast the day’s play in Auchterarder 70, overlooking the 18th greens of The King’s and Queen’s.

Among its many pursuits, Gleneagles boasts fly-fishing, falconry, cycling, off-roading, equestrian experiences and archery. Guests will also have use of a range of leisure facilities, including the pitch-and-putt course, lawn games and outdoor tennis courts.
